Museum Highlights

Explore Our Treasures Online

In 2021, while the Museum was closed to visitors due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we opened our virtual doors to share a selection of highlights from our collection. Members of the Museum team created a series of short films offering a glimpse into some of the remarkable objects we care for. You can watch these films below and discover the history behind these fascinating treasures.

Our former Site Manager, Lt Col (Retd) Chris Hyslop OBE, who appears in some of these films, sadly passed away in June 2025 after a courageous battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). His dedication to the Museum and its collections is fondly remembered.

At the time these films were made, Henry Whitington served as our Library Assistant; he has since gone on to become the Museum’s Archivist.

One of the treasures featured, our Apache AH Mk.1, was acquired in 2024, several years after the original series of films was created. As a result, the Apache feature has been presented slightly differently. It offers written insights into the history and significance of this remarkable aircraft, together with photographs and a time lapse video of the installation of the Apache in the Museum.

Simply click on the treasures below to discover more about the stories behind them.
