In commemoration of D-Day 80, the Army Flying Museum at Middle Wallop in Hampshire will stage a series of fascinating talks, looking at many aspects of the landings on 6 June 1944.

On 3 June, the Museum will welcome Chris Cox, a specialist aerial photographic interpreter, who has studied the contemporary aerial perspective on the invasion known as Operation OVERLORD. Chris will present an interactive illustrated discussion, to show the contribution of the aerial perspective to the understanding of D-Day and its extensive preparations. Those attending the event are welcome to contribute their own memories, family history or observations from this crucial time in history.

On 6 June, the 80th anniversary of D-Day, Tony Bray will tell the tale of the glider assault on the bridges over the Caen Canal and the River Orne. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere and visit some of the very gliders themselves within the Museum, as Tony tells of the assault described as one of the most outstanding flying achievements of the Second World War.

This year marks the 82nd anniversary of the formation of the Glider Pilot Regiment and Tony’s talk includes interviews recorded with surviving veterans from this illustrious Regiment.

On 10 June, aviation historian, broadcaster and author Paul Beaver is back at the Museum with a very special talk to mark D-Day 80 and will share some of the secrets which made a success of the greatest landing operation in history. Paul will talk about deception, influence and some of the amazing innovations that were key to the liberation of France. Paul’s talk will also be streamed live from the Museum, with both in-person and online attendees able to participate in a live Q&A following the talk.

Events such as these have become a key part of the Museum’s programme over the last year and have contributed to record visitor numbers. The Museum, who recently saw its new Apache AH Mk.1 exhibit officially opened by His Majesty King Charles III, continues to cement its place as an outstanding Hampshire attraction and recently received a Trip Advisor Travellers Choice award.
